WPI has hosted two transparency reporting seminars, where journalist/trainers/professors come to Minnesota for two weeks of content and teaching methodology training. The first 10 in 2004 were from Central and South America. The second 10 were from around the world, including Central and South America.
We are seeking funding to host a third transparency reporting seminar. Watch this space for updates if we are successful. We are also seeking funding to hold our popular two-day seminars, where we offer U.S. and local speakers a chance to give pointers on the tools, methodology and ethics of transparency reporting. The three seminars we did in Argentina and Chile the past two years taught classes to nearly 900 student and professional journalists in only five days. If you are interested in exploring with WPI the possibility of having such a two day conference in your city, please send us an email.
Graduates of the seminars return to use the content and teaching methods with professionals and students in their own countries. They are encouraged to hold their own seminars and even bring some of their U.S. training colleagues as speakers. This has happened in Peru, Chile and Uruguay. Two are planned for Mexico and Guatemala later this year.
