Editing and Publishing Director Estudios Graphema My name is Néstor Garrido, from Venezuela, and I received my bachelor degree in 1986, at the Catholic University Andrés Bello in Caracas, major in Mass Communication and minor in Journalism. As a student, I began my experience as a trainée at El Impulso, the oldest and most popular newspaper in Barquisimeto, my home city. Just after my graduation day, I started working as a researcher in communication at the Venezuelan Episcopal Conference (the Catholic Church itself) and after six months I became a reporter and writer for Nuevo Mundo Israelita, the local Jewish communitys weekly, where, I spent four years until I became its editor. In 1990, I started an editorial project called "A Voz da Comunidade," another weekly but aimed to the Portuguese community in Caracas. In 1991 I suffered a big swift in my career, as I started working in Radio Caracas Televisión, a national broadcast television network and, mainly, a telenovelas producer. There I spent seven years as a journalist attaché at the Public Affairs Department and later as a screenplay writer, even in drama as in documental films for TV. In 1996 I received the second national award for screenplay with my piece, Se ruega no enviar flores (No flowers, please). In 1995 I became a professor in my alma mater, teaching Journalism Writing, and I worked in the Jewish Community managing Public Affairs and Publications. At the same time, I continued writing for TV and documental films as a free-lancer. In 2003, I founded my own publishing Company called Estudios Graphema, which manages such publications as Recuerda-Zajor and internal publications for private companies. As a teacher I founded the departments of Spanish Journalistic Style, Jewish Literature and Publishing. I also teach screenplay writing at the ICREA institute in Caracas. My main interests are movies, poetry, linguistics and multiculturalism. |
