A Purple Perspective on Black Lives Matter

Local black activists are taking their push for change into different terrains in the Twin Cities, from the Minnesota State Fair to the classrooms of North Minneapolis. There is a color that marked two interesting initiatives we came to know first-hand: purple. As in Purple Rain, the most popular song from the late musician Prince, Minnesota’s most renowned artist.

From Hong Kong to Minnesota - in 21 years

When you are in Minnesota in late August or early September, you go to the State Fair. So off I went and had Sweet Martha’s cookies, fried pickles, milk shake – and a photo with a cow.

That photo turned out to be important. I posted it on Facebook and people found it entertaining and we all had good fun with it. But that photo also connected me with an old friend of mine.

Diabetes deep fried on a stick

In one of the early books of the series Little House on the Prairie, On the Banks of Plum Creek, Laura's father Charles Ingalls travels hundreds of miles away to find work after grasshoppers destroyed their crops.

It’s around Christmas and on the way back he gets caught in a horrendous blizzard. He survived by digging himself into a snow bank and by eating all the Christmas candy he bought for Laura and Mary. At one point the blizzard lulls and he spots the light from a lamp in a window and realizes that he is just a few meters from his house.
